holy child your eyes are aglow as the embers light the fires that melt the snow upon the hearth of december there’s a raven keepin’ watch as the moon she ascends and the pines are high and gentle out beyond the riverbends this and more and will be given to you this and more will be given run the rivers and let the sagebrush roll by like water you are of the ocean and the stones you are the cloudburst daughter and somewhere out on the hillsides, a lantern shines a light the coyotes wear their blessings at the entrance of the night you went halfway up the mountainside just looking for what’s right all this and more will be given torch the skyline and if the west wind calls, you will answer tread the fine line and be a shiver, be a spark, be a dancer and on the the shoulders of the mountain, clouds are turning in the sky all their images reflected in the corner of your eye all this and more will be given before you die this and more will be given all this and more will be given to you this and more will be given

I sent my love up North to you I sent my love up North to you dropped it on a high flying cloud that was rolling by it fell on the back of the Canada geese as they flew on by in the night sky oh - I sent my love up North to you after all, it's all that I can do oh -

Every little step I hit another setback losing lots of sleep and I'm havin little heart attacks hoping that I'll get your letter in the mailbox wrapped in paper lunchbags, magazines and old socks My heart's speakin like a red hot coal My heart's speakin like a red hot ruby Little bits of days going by, going by Little bits of days going by, going by In the tall grass valley we're cookin up July watching the slow moving clouds go by staring at your face in a well worn photograph won't you call my number? I get so giddy when you laugh My heart's crazy as a runaway train My heart's crazy as earthbound lighnin Little bits of days going by, going by Little bits of days going by, going by

Spent the afternoon just thinkin bout the Okanagan country and the way your blue eyes turn into the corner of the light Every time I close my eyes into the clouds above the valley my soul takes off a'flyin til it touches at your side The air is warm and still above my own Wallowa prairie where the grass is light and gentle as the color of your hair You've been waiting by the seaside where the nights are cool and airy won't you tell me when you're comin home and I will meet you there The month is slowly passin on the wing of a redwing blackbird through the little towns all strung like beads on Highway 82 But don't you know that if I had to, I would wait forever, honey and if you're runnin low on love I'll send some more to you I'm halfway through a daydream bout your cabin by the border even though i've never had the chance to see it with my eyes but those Okanagan hills know how to get your life in order You can take me there in August when the moon is on the rise

Crazy as a daisy in the summer sunshine I was forgetting to pay my bills You and me were drinking from a fountain never really knowin' if I had my fill and you shook me like a willow branch and I shook you like a basket o'leaves running downstream in a barefoot frenzy fourteen days ain't enough when you're dreaming Oh! Walkin my way through the cottonwood trees you were bringing my mornin! Oh! Keep the prayer flags flyin! One of these days you'll be comin my way rollin down the Al-Can Highway I turned 19 chasing down a greyhound dragging our bags down the interstate we hitched a ride and you took to dreamin and all the while I was watching your face You held my hand all the way to the city and the wheatfields and orchards turned to pines Cresting over Manastash ridge the sky broke open like an ocean in flight and - Oh! Walking my way through the cottonwood trees you were bringing my mornin! Oh! Keep the prayer flags flyin! One of these days you'll be coming my way rollin down the Al-Can Highway Just today I was reading your letter taking in all that you had to say 'Babe,' you said, 'I'm scared about the future that just keeps bringing me farther away' Well your hair and your love are growin like weeds and I wouldn't mind having you in my sight, but - baby I'm not worried 'bout time Both of us seen how it turns on a dime and - Oh! Walking my way through the cottonwood trees you were bringing my morning! Oh! Keep the prayer flags flyin! One of these days you'll be coming my way rollin down the Al-Can Highway

Leaving Kent 01:30
Well I grew up in her parks and her playgrounds never really knowin what was happening in my town Now they're tearing down the old barn down the block and a strange wind of progress is whippin through the windsock I'm leaving Kent where the food is fast where the pavement never dies where the trees won't last I'm leaving Kent 'cause they've forgotten about roots and wings and lookin for someone with a familiar song to sing I don't know what'll happen if I stay this place is lookin more like LA every day there's a five lane corridor in the Kiefers' backyard and four new video stores on the same boulevard I'm leavin Kent whereg the food is fast where the pavement never dies where the trees won't last I'm leaving Kent 'cause they've forgotten about roots and wings and lookin for someone with a familiar song to sing

Whoa - High desert man Whoa - When will I see you again For my eyes grow weak and my words grow thin for a world half the color of your windburnt skin I've been tryin to pull the colors from my mind of the Joshua trees and the half moon sky on an evening as black as a black cat's eye on the unpaved distances between you and I And there's a road I used to know cuts across seven states all the way to Mexico and I know and I've been there before and it's not comin back my way any more Last night I dreamed about your hands That were waving to me across the yellow sand Pointin five directions cross the open land you were smilin as wide as a Gypsy fan

Wise-eyed gentle walker sun-faced daydream maker you encircle my affections like a storm upon a restless harbor Oh - brilliant whistling heathen music in your sermon We together purge our sins in the waters of our newborn Heav'n You are a wonder and a beauty You are a wonder and a beauty

Give me a time, oh give me a day I'll be crossin that state line right away Send me a letter, oh send me a light set fire to the sky on a dark September night Run and tell the children that someones on their way Run and tell the children someones on their way Run and tell the children that someone's on their way - hey! Tundra to hide, oh cedar to hay cut through the sky on raven wings and carry me away Dawnlight to dew, oh sunrise to set roll forward like a river whose ending don't exist yet Run and tell the children that someones on their way Run and tell the children someones on their way Run and tell the children that someone's on their way - hey!

about

This record is a product of much chaos, heat, and fun times in the kitchen. The songs were written by Kate Johnson and recorded in her kitchen at 343 Park Street after a wild ordeal of broken strings, faulty equipment, heat exhaustion, a break-in at Dr Bode's house (ssh!), many trips to 7 Eleven and Radio Shack, and harrowing attacks by Harriet the cat. Kevin Erickson hit the 'record' button.
